During the month of October, Mr. Stalnaker's English 11 classes created sketch notes to help them understand Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
African Studies classes have been continuing their learning knowledge wall while completing Juneteenth posters.
English 9 created a one pager project regarding the poems they analyzed: "Immigrant Picnic" and "Morning Talk" .
English 12 students have completed their study of Beowulf. They wrote a resume for the ultimate hero and examined three translations of the original text. Their ring-giver, Mrs. Fisher, was pleased with overall performance on the Beowulf essay exam. Ask your student about the role of fate or fame in Beowulf, or why Christian references are so present, and they should be able to explain it all! The class has spent two weeks writing about their experiences taking a personality test under their student teacher, Ms. Warnick. I'd encourage you to hop onto 16personalities.com and see your personality too! Next up is Canterbury Tales. Your student will have reading homework every night between November 1st and November 8th, and they'll have quizzes every day. Encourage them to talk to you about the wild cast of Middle Ages characters they're meeting!

College English students have written four essays during the year so far. They are in the early stages of their term papers. They are choosing between two topics set out by the textbooks Fairmont State requires: Is Free Speech on Campus in Peril? Or How Can We Stem the Tide of Gun Violence? Your student has specific due dates that must be adhered to. We will be spending the whole quarter writing this term paper. FSU grades will close in early December, but we will have plenty to do beyond the close of FSU’s fall semester. Encourage your student to follow the deadlines and keep up with the reading and assignments!

AP Literature
In AP Lit, students have been learning how to write a thesis statement that will guarantee success on the Exam. Our focus for now is poetry. Your student has been given information about their 2nd quarter assignment, a Personal Poetry Anthology.
